BC Graduation Requirements
BC High School Graduation requirements:
Students who graduate from BC school receive a Dogwood Certificate which is recognized worldwide as a legitimate graduation credential. Students who achieve this certificate may apply with confidence to post-secondary institutions in North America and other English-speaking countries of their choice, world-wide.
All students must earn a minimum of 80 credits to graduate and must complete a number of required courses and exams (see chart which follows). Besides the 48 credits for required courses, students must earn a minimum of 28 elective credits and 4 credits for “Graduation Transitions” which is a standards-based assessment determined at the school level.
BC has an additional Ministry policy for the graduation of international students. It is called the International Student Graduation Policy and is designed to ensure that international students who graduate in BC meet competency levels in English. The policy recognizes that students may decide to come to Canada after grade 10 and allows the granting of credits for subjects that they have successfully completed in their home countries. International students can also earn credits for demonstrated proficiency in their own language.
BC’s IPSEA schools have helped thousands of international students achieve high school graduation and move on to post-secondary institutions. You, too, will have all the help you need to achieve graduation when you apply to a high school program in one of BC’s IPSEA schools.
